447,000 hectare wilderness area is reknowned for its remote waterfalls,
stunning myrtle rainforests, pristine rivers, dramatic mountain tops and
wild coastline. The Tarkine is one of Tasmania’s greatest treasures.
The Tarkine’s size, naturalness and habitat diversity make it an
outstanding refuge for native mammals such as the Tasmania Devil as well
as more than 130 different species of birds. It is home to more than 60
rare, threatened and endangered species and is Australia’s largest
tract of temperate rainforest.
